    Shammah welcomes all children – we are a family orientated institution Children aged 3 and under are free Please note that although the lodge is fenced all children must be supervised The swimming pool is fenced, however it is used at guest’s own risk Games and play park available for children under supervision

  • Refreshments
    Assorted range of refreshments are available from our honesty bar, in our entertainment area, which also has an ice machine, pool, fuse ball, darts and DSTV
  • Booking Conditions
    As Shammah Lodge is not a guest house and do not provide overnight accommodation for travelers, we can only accept group bookings. This also provides exclusivity and privacy for groups, be they, business, conference, team building, churches or family and friends. Weekends - Minimum stay two nights on Fridays and Saturdays at a fixed rate per night Bookings during the week are charged at a discounted rate subjected to a minimum of 6 persons Group bookings available upon request
  • Cancellation Conditions
    Cancellation 4 weeks before arrival – 40% of the deposit will be refundable Cancellation 1 week before arrival – deposit will not be refunded Cancellation due to death, illness or emergency restrictions will be taken into account and should reasons for cancellation be considered reasonable and unavoidable, forfeiture of deposit may be waived.
  • Payment Conditions
    A deposit of 75% of the total accommodation cost is required to confirm a reservation Full payment of the deposit is required to be made within 7 days of receipt of the quotation, failing which the inquiry quotation and provisional booking will be cancelled Full payment is required before departure Card payment facilities available Accounts cannot be split and the person/entity for booking, remain responsible for full payment
  • Insurance Conditions
    Guests are required to arrange their own fully comprehensive travel insurance including medical in case of emergency evacuation from the lodge. All guests and visitors to Shammah Lodge will be required to sign indemnity forms, and will be subject to COVID-19 screening, upon arrival RIGHT OF ADMISSION IS RESERVED
  • Access to Shammah Lodge
    Please take note that public access road to Shammah Lodge deteriorates according to seasons, and should you be concerned about the condition of the road we strongly suggest that you phone Shammah Lodge Management prior to your visit. During the rainy season the road conditions at times are not suitable for smaller passenger vehicles and the use of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) is then strongly recommended.
  • Game Viewing
    Shammah Lodge is a popular wildlife destination in the Middelburg region, so if you feel like experiencing everything the beautiful bushveld has to offer, visit Shammah Lodge. Take in the spectacular landscape, go on game drives (self-drive or guided) or do some bird watching during a game walk. There are many game drive routes to choose from with plenty of hideouts and scenic picnic spots.
  • Hunting
    If you want to enjoy excellent game hunting in South Africa, look no further!! Shammah Lodge customize hunting adventures for hunters and their families, ensuring that every detail of your hunting activity is adhered to in a professional manner. ​ Shammah Lodge caters for your personal needs to ensure an unforgettable tailor-made African Hunting experience. While hunting at Shammah Lodge you are not limited by hunting seasons, but we prefer our season to run from early March through to late October. During these months the Mpumalanga climate is moderate to cool, making for comfortable hunting conditions. Shammah Lodge family has a reputation built on honesty, fair chase, safety of the clients, ethics, and good sportsmanship. We strive to present our hunting clients with the perfect memory and an exceptional hunting experience.
  • Tree Identification
    If you were on a hike at Shammah Lodge and someone pointed to a tree, how well do you think you’d be able to identify the species? ​ Many could quickly name iconic species in the bushveld. But what about the dozens of other trees towering over us at Shammah Lodge? Shammah Lodge has provided identification tags to 52 tree species on the lodge to enable hikers and tree lovers to easy identify these species. ​ Learning to identify trees is like studying a secret language. You will discover how to distinguish between leaf shapes, branch patterns and bark texture. You will feel more connected to the natural world, and you can impress your friends and families by reading the trees like a book.
  • Fishing
    Shammah Lodge is surrounded by many dams and rivers suitable for fishing. Whether you are an amateur fisherman or a skilled professional – there are lots of different types of fish species that you can try your luck on! ​ Black Bass, Grass Carp and Kurper are found in most of the dams on the Lodge and are often the target for many weekend fishing outings. One can also head to the Loskop Dam situated 10km from Shammah Lodge in search of Yellow fish. Below are some of the fish species that can be found at various dams and rivers at Shammah Lodge.
  • Bird Watching
    Birder or not, you are bound to appreciate the abundance of bird life at Shammah Lodge. There are over 92 different fascinating bird species in the area, so be sure to bring along your camera and binoculars. Visitors to the area often spot additional species here, making your birding trip exciting as you never know what you are about to discover. ​ There are mountains, streams, rivers, dams and rolling hills, creating a varied environment that attracts many different kinds of birds.
  • Hiking
    Shammah Lodge offers an excellent hiking experience on its 400-hectare reserve, the rugged, rocky landscape peppered with mountains and steep koppies that add some extreme uphill to the mix. ​ The trail route is a 15 km loop trail but offers several variations and stages for different levels of hikers. Incredibly steep routes up to viewpoints give hardcore hikers a good work out. ​ The trail is adaptable for anyone's abilities – from easy family hikers over river crossings and the chance to spot game to extreme. Shammah Lodge provides luxurious overnight stays (expect much more than bunk beds and basic facilities). The route map, which you can pick up at Shammah Lodge, is divided into an easy family route of about 15 km. There are additional tracks off this basic route to mountain viewpoints. The level of our hiking and mountain biking trails is easy to extreme.
  • Mountain Biking
    Shammah Lodge offers an excellent mountain biking experience on its 400-hectare reserve, the rugged, rocky landscape peppered with mountains and steep koppies that add some extreme uphill to the mix. ​ The trail route is a 15 km loop trail but offers several variations and stages for different levels of riders. For long distance mountain bike riders, the additional stretch of gravel road just outside the main gate is an added appeal. Incredibly steep routes up to viewpoints give hardcore mountain bikers a good work out. ​ The trail is adaptable for anyone's abilities – from easy family rides over river crossings and the chance to spot game to extreme. Shammah Lodge provides luxurious overnight stays (expect much more than bunk beds and basic facilities). The route map, which you can pick up at Shammah Lodge, is divided into an easy family route of about 15 km. There are additional tracks off this basic route to mountain viewpoints. ​ The same trails serve hikers who are sharing the same trails. Type of routes is road riding on double track clear gravel roads through bushveld, some river crossings after rain, some hills and winding path as well as very steep koppies. The level of our hiking and mountain biking trails is easy to extreme.
  • Conferencing
    Shammah Lodge is the perfect location for a relaxed and focused conference or meeting, with opportunities for participants to get out onto the lodge and enjoy its game viewing, hunting, fishing, hiking, birding and mountain biking opportunities as well as try their hand with clay pigeon shooting at the lodges shooting range. Shammah Lodge is only 1.5 hours from Gauteng. ​ The venue can accommodate up to 35 people, seated in a variety of configurations. Shammah Lodge offers a relaxed but professional atmosphere to ensure that you get the most out of your conference or meeting. ​ The conference room is well equipped with an overhead projector, motorised screen, plugs and cables, flip charts, stationary, big screen TV, Wi-Fi and a backup generator. ​ The venue has a braai area adjoining the conference venue and a fire pit alongside the venue offers the opportunity for evening socials at our well equipped courtesy bar. Mid-morning and afternoon teas will be provided. ​ CATERING ​ Shammah Lodge does not have permanent catering on site, however, there is a fully and well-equipped kitchen which can be used by caterers of your choice. Catering can be arranged for you and braai facilities are also available. ​ CELEBRATORY EVENTS If you are planning that special occasion, whether a birthday, an engagement party, or a girl’s get together, the venue is a great option.
