About Shammah

Shammah Lodge started as a dream that our Pretorius family had, of a life style lodge in the Loskop Dam area, and easily accessible from Middelburg, our business base.

Finding a suitably sized farm, with a bushveld landscape and feel, was answered when our one family member, Pieter, introduced us to the Sinclair family, the previous owners.

We took occupation of Shammah in late 2012, as the proud new owners of our very own family farm – an experience we last had in Zimbabwe in 1978.

We kept the previous name, Shammah, which means – God is There - as this has been our experience when visiting this very special place.

The owners are the Pretorius family and the lodge is managed by Leonard Goodchild "Nardo".

The initial emphasis was on curbing hunting, increasing the game species and improving infrastructure. During the initial years the family also enjoyed the sheer pleasure of a family time at Shammah and the activities, and quality time, not usually found in the urban areas, and which birthed our need to share this experience with others – families, friends, church groups, business groups, social groups.

During 2017 a decision was made to upgrade the main camp, to what it is now, and which we are extremely proud of, and wish to share with you – even this was kept in the family as the project was managed and completed in record time, by Jeremy Desmond.

We are able to offer you a true and tranquil, South African experience, on a game farm, where hunting is strictly controlled and only allowed when culling is necessary, and our emphasis has been on sharing a diverse variety of animal, bird and plant life – access to scenic landscapes, ranging from grassland plains to rocky outcrops, dams and the Selons River, whilst being accommodated in a modern and luxurious camp, with access to excellent facilities and numerous activities.

We only offer group bookings, as opposed to overnight accommodation, to ensure exclusivity and privacy.

We as a family invite you to our family Life Stile Lodge and trust that you will enjoy your stay and return to the daily grind, feeling, refreshed, rested and relaxed, and trust that you may have arrived as guests, but left as friends.
